Steve Sarkisian and this staff have put together an incredibly impressive Texas Longhorns 2022 recruiting class. Putting an emphasis on key position groups, most notably in the trenches. Here is the list of all of the Longhorns incoming signees.

Offense

Quarterback

Maalik Murphy

Maalik Murphy is one of the most talented quarterbacks coming out of high school. His biggest question mark is his consistency and his lack of playing time. Most likely taking a year as the third string quarterback and competing for the backup job, Murphy has the skill set to push anyone for the starting job in year two.

Running Back

Jaydon Blue

The former number one running back in the country. Jaydon Blue has much to prove this spring and fall while coming back from two full seasons removed from competition, after the pandemic stopped the 2020 season and Jaydon opted to sit out his last year of high school to focus on getting ready for the next level.

Wide Receivers

Steve Sarkisian and former wide receivers coach Andre Coleman had a lot of misses in this 2022 recruiting cycle. However, they secured enough talent to have solid depth.

Brenen Thompson

Brenen Thompson projects primarily as a slot receiver with game changing speed. Thompson’s personal best in the 100 meters is a 10.22, for reference Tyreek Hill’s personal best in high school was a 10.19.

Savion Red

Savion Red projects as another slot receiver who has kick and punt return ability as well. Similar to Devin Duvernay, Red can make his presence felt as a yards-after-catch specialist.

Offensive Line

The offensive line was a major issue for The Longhorns offense in 2021, Kyle Flood and Steve Sarkisian obviously identified and prioritized it on the recruiting trail. Bringing in the most recruits of any position group in this Texas Longhorns 2021 recruiting class.

Kelvin Banks

Devon Campbell

Kelvin Banks and Devon Campbell look to be primed for immediate impact if the current Texas offensive linemen don’t impress in the spring.

Neto Umeozulu

Cameron Williams

Malik Agbo

Cole Hutson

Connor Robertson

The group of Neto Umeozulu, Cameron Williams, Malik Agbo, Cole Hutson, and Connor Robertson could provide help in 2022. However, it’s more likely that they are impact players in 2023 and beyond, especially Neto and Agbo.

Defense

Defensive Line

Texas seemingly had an impressive group along the defensive line in 2021. However, they all played below average and did not live up to their off-season hype. Bringing in more talent to the defensive line was needed for the Longhorns.

Jaray Bledsoe

Aaron Bryant

Kristopher Ross

Zac Swanson

Bo Davis brought together a small, yet impressive group in this recruiting cycle. Sarkisian’s goal was to bring in young talent to compete for snaps immediately while also gearing up for the move to the SEC.

Edge Defenders

Maybe the most troubling position for Texas on defense was their edge rushers. With Joseph Ossai gone, no one stepped up as a dominant pass rusher last year.

Justice Finkley

J’Mond Tapp

Derrick Brown

Ethan Burke

Pete Kwiatkowski prioritized the edge group this year, bringing in two highly touted players in Justice Finkley and J’Mond Tapp. Derrick Brown and Ethan Burke have great potential, but look to be redshirt or depth players in 2022.

Off-Ball Linebacker

With DeMarvon Overshown coming back for another season, the pressure of adding an off-ball linebacker was lessened. However, Texas still isn’t particularly strong or deep at Will or Mike linebacker.

Trevell Johnson

Trevell Johnson will be a great special teams player immediately for Texas. With his size we could see him move to safety or into the Star role in the future.

Defensive Backs

Terry Joseph ended up bringing in an incredibly talented group at the last moment for this Texas Longhorns 2022 recruiting class.

Terrance Brooks

Jaylon Guilbeau

Convincing Terrance Brooks and Jaylon Guilbeau to flip from Ohio State and TCU, respectively, was a massive boost to this group. Both play a very physical brand of press-corner.

Bryan Allen jr.

Larry Turner-Gooden

Bryan Allen jr. and Larry Turner-Gooden both compliment each other’s skill sets well. Allen being an enforcer and solid when covering tight ends and slot receivers, while LTG being more of a free-roamer in the backend always looking to make plays.

It’s very possible we see all four of these players starting a year or two from now.

Austin Jordan

Xavion Brice

Specialists

Will Stone, Kicker

Lance St. Louis, Long Snapper
