It is time to look at the 2025 offensive recruiting targets for the Texas Longhorns. The 2024 high school recruiting cycle has officially wrapped up following the February 7th National Signing Day. Texas finished with the number six class on consensus (from 247sports & on3). A very solid placement for Steve Sarkisian and his staff after only bringing in 22 high school players this cycle (Texas and Ohio State are the only teams in the Top Six with less than 26 players in their respective classes).
Steve Sarkisian and his staff will now be putting all their focus on to the 2025 cycle. Let’s examine who will be the Texas Longhorns 2025 offensive recruiting targets.
2025 Offensive Recruiting Targets
Texas has done a good job evenly distributing resources for their recruiting classes. Since 2022 (Steve Sarkisian’s first full cycle), Texas has brought in 35 players on the offensive side of the ball, about 47% of the total number of players brought in from the high school level.
Quarterback

This one is simple, for now. Saraland, Alabama starting quarterback KJ Lacey is already committed to the Longhorns. Lacey seems to be a solid commitment as of right now. However, Steve Sarkisian and Texas quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee will likely continue to evaluate this QB Class into their senior seasons.
KJ Lacey (Committed)
- Saraland, AL – 5’11” 175lbs.
Julian Lewis (Committed to USC)
- Carrollton, GA – 6’0″ 185lbs.
Julian Lewis is an interesting name as he was previously the number one player in the 2026 class before reclassifying into the 2025 cycle. Lewis recently stated he will continue to evaluate all of his options and included in a list of possibilities.
Runningback
Texas is reverting back to their bread and butter as a program. Continuously churning out NFL-caliber runningbacks year after year. If Texas is able to retain runingbacks coach Tashard Choice for a few more years there is no doubt who “RBU” will be referring to. Now, who will Choice be targeting in 2025 to continue this path?
Jordon Davison
- Mater Dei, CA – 5’11” 210lbs.
Deondrae “Tiger” Riden
- DeSoto, TX – 5’10” 195lbs.
Riley Wormley
- Southlake Carroll, TX – 5’9″ 170lbs.
Rickey Stewart Jr.
- Chapel Hill, TX – 5’11” 180lbs.
Texas will likely opt to take two runningbacks in this cycle. they have done so every year Steve Sarkisian has had a full recruiting class. Typically they like to take a “bell cow-style” of runner and then take a more complimentary piece.
The first runningback is likely a higher-end level of athlete who is highly rated and they can envision giving the ball to 15+ times a game. The second runningback they typically aim to take is a more complimentary piece. This player likely has one elite trait or a couple great traits, but is lacking in other areas. This player will also likely be a key special teams contributor.
In 2022, it was Jaydon Blue (blue-chip prospect) and Savion Red (three-star rating, niche role, special teams contributor). Then in 2023, it was Cedric Baxter (five-star prospect) and Tre Wisner (three-star rating, special teams ace). Finally in 2024, it seems to be Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark.
Wide Receiver

Steve Sarkisian has had a revolving door at wide receivers coach in his tenure at Texas so far. Now with year two of Chris Jackson, some stability may help Texas build on two solid wide receiver classes the past two years.
Dakorien Moore (Committed to LSU)
- Duncanville, TX – 5’11” 175lbs.
Kaliq Lockett
- Sachse, TX – 6’1″ 175lbs.
Marcus Harris
- Mater Dei, CA – 5’11” 180lbs.
After a 2022 cycle where we only had one wide receiver in the class (who transferred after one season), Texas has taken three wide receivers in 2023 and four wide receivers in 2024 from the high school ranks.
After losing their top three wide receivers to the NFL draft and another two depth pieces in the transfer portal, Sarkisian was aggressive in taking in three more transfer portal wide receivers this cycle. However, there is a good chance none of the three transfer wide receivers come back for the 2025 season.
I believe Sarkisian and Chris Jackson will continue to add at least three or four wide receivers to this room from the high school ranks in the 2025 cycle. Listed I have the three top names on their board, if they can land two of the three it will shape up to be a great class.
Tight End
Jeff Banks is one of the most respected recruiters in the industry. It is why he’s one of the most well-paid special teams coaches in the country. However, the tight end high school recruiting numbers have been underwhelming. Only adding three tight ends since 2021, none of them being Top-350 recruits, is disappointing especially coming from a group coached by an ace recruiter.
Tom Herman’s last and Steve Sarkisian’s (technical) first class in 2021 had three tight ends in it: Ja’Tavion Sanders, Gunnar Helm, and Juan Davis. So it is acceptable that Texas decided to focus their resources on other positions. However, with one off to the NFL and the other two going into their senior year, it is time to find an elite tight end from the high school ranks.
Kiotti Armstrong
- Jasper, TX – 6’5″ 245lbs.
Kaleb Edwards
- Oak Ridge, CA – 6’6″ 225lbs.
Emaree Winston (Committed)
- Calhoun, GA – 6’1″ 230lbs.
Already having one Top-300 tight end is great, however there is still room to add more elite talent. Steve Sarkisian has publicly stressed how important the tight end position is in his offense (second only to the quarterback). It’s time to see the resources be used to back up that statement.
Offensive Line
Kyle Flood was one of the first hires Steve Sarkisian made after being named the Texas Longhorns head coach. So far, Flood has proven to be a solid recruiter. Bringing in three five-star prospects and ten four-star prospects in three recruiting cycles.
However, last year three of the five starters along the offensive line were hold overs from the Tom Herman-era. Flood must prove that this offensive line can develop into a Joe Moore Award (award for the best offensive line in the country) winning-level offensive line.
There has been an obvious emphasis on the offensive line in recruiting since Steve Sarkisian has taken over. Adding fifteen players from the high school level in their first three cycles (and twelve in their first two cycles).
Now it will be all about continuing to add to that room without over-populating it. here are a few 2025 offensive recruiting targets Texas could add to that massive offensive line room.
Michael Fasusi
- Lewisville, TX – 6’5″ 300lbs.
Jonte Newman
- Bridgeland, TX – 6’4″ 275lbs.
Jackson Christian
- Port Neches-Groves, TX – 6’5″ 290lbs.
Byron Washington
- DeSoto, TX – 6’8″ 380lbs.
The Texas Longhorns will likely add another three or four players to this room from the high school ranks. Typically they like to mix elite blue-chip talent with developmental prospects with elite size. We should expect that trend to continue in the 2025 recruiting class.
Closing
Overall, this is a very early list of 2025 offensive recruiting targets. We still have the spring transfer portal to see who leaves and what groups will need an even bigger injection of youth. We also still have senior seasons to be played that are always vital in identifying players.
