When you go into Tuscaloosa and knock off Alabama it’s easy to talk about leadership and culture improvements. With Quinn Ewers out, experienced offensive linemen hobbled, and the entire first team secondary injured coming out of the Houston game. Texas’ injuries will provide an opportunity to show the growth and depth of a program looking to regain some national relevance in its final Big 12 season.

Texas Injuries on Offense

Texas once again is starting a quarterback for the third straight year that has not started a college before. And for an extended time with defenses that run what seems to be a kryptonite to Steve Sarkisian’s offense. Jake Majors is going to be huge in taking some of the plate of a young quarterback.

Texas injuries don’t stop at quarterback in the backfield. Cedric Baxter looked great against Houston but lower leg injuries can always be tricky in season. Guys in year 3 of this scheme are in every position group. Their leadership must shine through for Texas’ goals to still be ahead of them.

Texas’ Defensive Issues

The pass rush that was so vaunted through the Baylor game. Has simply been non-existent for the last 3 games. And as it has waned, the secondary is completely depleted. A rotation of second & third string players just aren’t communicating and it’s costing them getting off the field. Though some guys can make their way back over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully some reinforcements can help find what made the Texas defense look special before Texas’ injuries the last month.
