The 2023 recruiting class is almost wrapped up. Steve Sarkisian and this staff have secured the number three recruiting class in the nation, with the chance to add top twenty recruit, tight end Duce Robinson, to the class. Now onto the 2024 class, here is a short list of some elite 2024 recruits the Texas Longhorns must pursue.
The Five-Stars

It’s improbable that the Texas Longhorns will get all three of these recruits. However, they have to get at least one of them. All of these players are from the state of Texas. If Steve Sarkisian is going to stack top five classes three recruiting cycles in a row, he is going to have to keep elite home-grown talent home.
Colin Simmons, Edge Rusher
Duncanville High School, Duncanville, Texas
Colin Simmons is 6’3” 225 pounds and the number one edge recruit in the nation. Simmons led the Duncanville Panthers to a 6A Division 1 State Championship this past season.
This Texas staff has done an incredible job recruiting in their two full recruiting cycles, registering the 5th ranked class in 2022 and 3rd ranked class in 2023, per 247sports & on3 consensus rankings. However, the one position they haven’t really gotten an elite five-star talent at is along the defensive line.
Micah Hudson, Wide Receiver
Lake Belton High School, Temple, Texas
Arguably the five-star prospect Steve Sarkisian and Texas is in the best position for right now, Micah Hudson is an elite talent at the wide receiver position. A true game breaker, Hudson will routinely turn short pass completions into big gains. However, speed and agility aren’t even Micah Hudson’s best traits as a football player. His catch radius for a 6’0″ 190 pound receiver is incredible. Hudson’s hands and ball skills are what truly make him a special prospect.
The Texas Longhorns have a deep and talented wide receiver room heading into the 2023 season. However, with the possibility of losing Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington, AD Mitchell, Isaiah Neyor, and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders after the season, Steve Sarkisian will need to overhaul the position with players ready to contribute immediately. Micah Hudson can absolutely be one of those players.
Kobe Black, Cornerback
Connally High School, Connally, Texas
Kobe Black showed off his impressive ability to be a two-way player at Connally high school his junior season. Flashing great ball skills and playmaking ability as a receiver and a defensive back. Standing at 6’0″ and weighing 190 pounds, Kobe Black has the ideal build of an outside cornerback. His frame still allows him to have oily hips, staying in-phase with receivers throughout the route.
The Texas Longhorns and Terry Joseph are pursuing Kobe Black hard. However, they have some steep competition in the Big XII and the SEC. Black’s brother Korie is currently at Oklahoma State. Black is also from Waco Texas which is where Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears play their home football games. In the SEC Black is being recruited by Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M.
Deion Sanders and Colorado provide a complete wild card in recruiting as well, especially for defensive backs. Prime Time has been able to secure the top cornerback in the past two recruiting cycles, Texas and this staff cannot underestimate the Buffalos in Boulder Colorado.
Closing
Overall, the Longhorns must get at least one of these top three players in the state of Texas. Steve Sarkisian has to keep home-grown talent on the Forty Acres, while still recruiting nationally. These elite 2024 recruits Texas is targeting will be the catalyst to another top-five recruiting class in the country. Which is exactly what Texas needs as they prepare to enter the SEC for the 2024 season.
