It is no secret that Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) has taken over the NCAA landscape. Everyone has their own opinion on NIL. Is it ruining college athletics as we know it? Is it about time the NCAA allowed athletes to get compensated? NIL is arguably the number one factor for a high school/transfer portal athlete determining where to showcase their ability. However, for new Texas quarterback commit – the number one recruit in the 2023 class, Arch Manning, NIL was not the biggest component in his decision.

NIL And Arch Manning’s Commitment

As many know, Arch Manning is a nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning, a grandson of Archie Manning, and son of former Ole Miss wide receiver, Cooper Manning. 

With a combined family net worth of $423 million, it goes without saying that Arch was not just looking for the school that could offer him the best NIL deal.

He was searching for a university that can transform him into the best Manning that ever played football.

Media outlets took storm on Thursday when Arch announced on Twitter that he had committed to the University of Texas. Longhorn icons such as Kevin Durant, Matthew McConaughey, and Vince Young took time to congratulate and welcome Arch to the forty acres.

What really stood out among the hype was the talk show host’s takes on Arch’s commitment.

Reaction

On Skip and Shannon: UNDISPUTED, football legend, Shannon Sharpe stated, “I think he went to Texas for one reason, Steve Sarkisian. I’m not surprised Arch committed to the Longhorns given Sark’s track record as an offensive guru. That had more to do with his decision than anything.”

On First Take, ESPN commentator Rece Davis stated, “NIL didn’t have any role on Arch’s decision. He is going to be very marketable. However, I don’t believe that is how the Manning family operates. They handled this whole recruitment very old-school like.”

Conclusion

Arch Manning choosing the Longhorns over Alabama, Clemson and Georgia is a great look for the university. This should definitely bring top recruits from all over the country to Austin. There is a lot to look forward to in the next few years for Texas Football fans.
