“The pride and winning tradition of The University of Texas will not be entrusted to the weak or the timid.” That’s the battle cry of the Texas Longhorns, that is Texas’ culture. That’s what TEXAS FIGHT means whether we’re in Gregory, at the Disch, or 100,000 strong at DKR. Depending on how you feel about the Texas Longhorns that could be confidence or arrogance. But it’s no doubt what the athletes of the University of Texas depend on to help fight through adversity in some capacity.

“Texas Fight” in Other Sports

Texas looked poised to stroll through the season on the way to a deep 38th trip to Omaha. However, Tanner Whitt would then go down for the year. Then 11-1 quickly turned into losing to Air Force and being 26-13. It didn’t look as though Texas would even get a shot at the postseason this year. They’re now 45-19 and one of only two Big-12 schools left in the College World Series this weekend.

Texas Softball after starting 5-6 after a disaster in the Clearwater Invitational and only being 12-9 after the Crimson Classic. Also looked as though they had no shot at getting to the postseason. They rode a 19-1-1 streak into the Red River series and although losing the series gave Oklahoma their toughest test all year and ended the Sooners forty game winning streak. As a #2 seed have fought through the Seattle Regional, Fayetteville Super Regionals, and the Women’s College World Series losers bracket to face Oklahoma in the National Championship series. All with the leadership of Hailey Dolcini, Mary Iakopo and four time All-American Janae Jefferson. We also can’t forget those “unlikely” performances of Estelle Czech, J.J. Smith, Bella Dayton, and Courtney Day.

Texas Culture in Football

Now to talk about those guys that play in DKR. We’ll see how they fight back from this adversity. They’re off to a good start. After ending the worst losing streak since 1956 with a win against Kansas State. Then, Steve Sarkisian secured Quinn Ewers as a transfer after one season at Ohio State. Finally, Texas landed a top five recruiting class for the 2022 cycle, with possibly the best offensive line class leading the way. Let’s see if Texas football can charge through – not 12 years of adversity, but one year. Because fixing just one year could be everything the program needs to secure their future with an important recruit. Because the pride and winning tradition of the Mannings will not be entrusted to the weak or timid either.
