Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns staff have been all-in on Arch Manning, the number one recruit in the 2023 cycle. Will they be able to switch gears and pivot to another high-end quarterback recruit if they do not land him though?
Arch Manning

Before we get into where the Longhorns could pivot if the don’t land Arch Manning, let’s talk about the aforementioned number one overall recruit.
Arch Manning is the crown jewel of the 2023 recruiting class. A consensus five-star, Arch comes from a long line of successful quarterbacks. Maybe you have heard of them: Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning. Arch looks to be the next elite quarterback from the royal family of football.
Arch’s commitment could also help pull in other recruits. Namely Rueben Owens and Johntay Cook, as they have been very transparent about wanting to all play together.
Although, the Longhorns seemingly have a solid chance at landing Rueben Owens and Johntay Cook without landing Arch, it would undoubtedly be helpful to get Arch committed.
If Not Arch, Then Who?

Steve Sarkisian is on record talking about how in the new age of the transfer portal it is vital to get at least one quarterback in every recruiting cycle. Contrary to that however, if the Longhorns do not get a commitment from Arch Manning, I suspect they will pass on the 2023 quarterback class this cycle. Steve Sarkisian and A.J. Milwee have yet to even offer another quarterback in 2023.
With Texas’ quarterback room boasting a three deep of Hudson Card, Quinn Ewers, and Maalik Murphy, Steve Sarkisian clearly is happy with the depth of the room as it stands.
If one of the current quarterbacks enter the transfer portal after the season, Texas could be left with a thin quarterback room again in 2023 with only two scholarship options at the position.
Conclusion
Arch Manning is clearly priority number one for the 2023 class. However, if Texas doesn’t land him they are still in a solid position to land another top five recruiting class.
It looks as if the Texas staff is content without bringing in a quarterback this recruiting cycle if they do not land Arch Manning. That could cause problems as stated before if Hudson Card or Maalik Murphy enters the transfer portal after the 2022 season.
