As we sit here today, Steve Sarkisian has the Texas Longhorns recruiting momentum hotter than the sun. Also called “Arch Madness” by Texas fans. Arch Manning made his viral decision by committing to the Texas Longhorns on June 22, 2022. Since then, Texas has received 10 key commitments. We all knew that having the Manning’s give the coaching staff their approval and trust would be huge for the 2023 recruiting cycle.
Texas has added offensive line depth to help with the huge haul in 2022. And they have also added the Desoto wide receiver Johntay Cook II. As well as Andy Dekaney receiver Jonah Wilson. Defensively, the Longhorns have picked up Derek Williams. Marking the first time since 2014 that LSU hasn’t gotten at least 2 of the top 3 prospects in Louisiana. Texas also flipped edge player Billy Walton from Oklahoma State. Bo Davis also contributed by adding a highly recruited defensive tackle, Sydir Mitchell from Oradell, New Jersey.
Texas’ recruiting momentum can take the next step into securing the number one overall class. Steve Sarkisian will have to secure these five recruits, as they are the biggest targets left. Linebacker Anthony Hill who is down to Texas and Texas A&M. Defensive Tackle David Hicks from Katy Paetow. Longview wide receiver Jalen Hale. South Oak cornerback Malik Muhammed. Cedric Baxter Jr. who is down to four schools- Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, and Florida. All of these players are in the top 55 of the ESPN300 recruiting rankings. The success of Arch Madness and Texas recruiting could depend on how many of those guys sign with the Longhorns. It’s crucial for Texas to finish off the 2023 cycle strong.
The reason Texas recruiting must be strong is because if the trends of Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning are continuing for 2024. With the top recruits following the top quarterback of the class. Texas could have some uphill battles with the top quarterbacks of 2024 already cooling off of Texas since the Arch commitment. Although, that shouldn’t be an issue if the two number one quarterbacks live up to their potential. But what could be an issue is Arch Manning will not have that opportunity before 2024. Heading into SEC play it most likely will not be an issue. But for Texas to be where they want to be, they will need all the momentum and talent possible to make sure there is no huge slip up in 2023.
